let's get crackin'

How was everyone's Halloweekend? Mine was pretty fun, despite the fact that I didn't really engage in any spooky activities!

We decided to take a trip to Rockport, and take in the coastal views and food before they closed for the winter season! Surprisingly, it wasn't too far of a drive. Took lots of touristy photos, ate lobster and other sea goodies, and walked around looking at memorabilia I would never buy. Fun fact: most of the movie The Proposal was filmed here! It wasn't Alaska...those tricksters.

Made a halfway pitstop at the mall afterwards and got myself some goodies at Forever21. The F21 at Northshore is seriously the best one...I wish I had more time to look around but we were in a time rush! But I managed to snag a couple pullovers/cardigans/earrings.

For dinner we made it back into the city and had some shabu shabu at Little Q! It was pretty good, but I think I still like Shabu-Zen the best. That's all I really have to say about that.

All in all, an enjoyable day other than cramming my history of medical debates paper in at the very end. Maybe I'll go buy some discounted candy at the drugstore tomorrow.

P.S. This is my 500th post - WOW!

day thirty!

Day 30 – A photograph of yourself today + three good things that have happened in the past 30 days.

This is a bit overdue...but wow has it been a month already? Actually, it's been more because I skipped a couple days here and there. Nonetheless, it's been fun and a good motivator to blog. I hope that I will continue to blog even without an incentive - so here's the last challenge!! (Keep in mind I was rushing and really lazy...)

1) Gorillaz concert with the boyfriend!
2) Costume party a week before Halloween!
3) And anything that I've boughten during the last 30 days!

November is tomorrow - WTF??

just because

The weather usually gets chilly around this time of year, but yesterday it happened to be quite nice out. So Jeff decided to drive back after his classes and we spent the day together. It makes the week a lot shorter when there's a break in there!

We had Kelly's Roast Beef for lunch, which was alright. He had the roast beef, I actually had the pulled beef (?). I forgot to take photos though...

After eating we went for a quick trip around the mall. Got myself a pair of shorts from H&M. I really like the wash of them - they remind me of the Wildfox style, a kind of 80's vintage California look? They're a bit short (they were the last pair!), but they were on sale for only $5 so I'll either wear them with shorts or just around the house. Or maybe even on the beach.

I've been wanting to go to H-Mart, so we did! Did some grocery shopping along with Mama Lee and then we had Korean grub for dinner at the food court. I don't know the name of the thing I ordered...but it was like a spicy pork with veggies soup. I was just craving the kimchee they give you on the side though, hehe.

I know I keep saying I have a lot to do and I should stay away from this blog...but it's like a stress reliever! Until next time~

back to reality

Weekend was pretty good. Friday night was the usual restaurant charade. But Jeff and I decided to take Saturday off and have some time to ourselves. I wanted to go shopping quite badly but limited myself to H&M...where I left empty handed. I guess it's a good thing though. However, we went next door to the bookstore and I got myself a stack of new magazines. My guilty pleasures.

We had a farewell family dinner for my cousin, who's moving to California next week. I'm really jealous. I think I'll end up there someday...I love Boston but I feel like a California girl at heart. Hehe. After we said our farewells, Jeff and I headed up to Clark for a little college fun. We first went to a friend's costume party, where I dressed as a pilot and Jeff was the Pink Panther. We then went to another friend's dance party afterward and hung out before we decided to bounce for our usual late night food & tv. I love lazing around.

I have much to do before this month ends. Ugh. I know I should keep myself away from the world wide web but I just can't help myself!

Day 29 – Something you could never get tired of doing.

Shopping...of course.
I need to tone it down a bit though. At least until I find a job haha.

day twenty eight

Day 28 – Your favorite movie.

I hate to be cliche...but I really love this movie. Who doesn't? Audrey Hepburn is so classic and elegant, and it's a lovely story. Maybe I should try reading the book.

For a more modern movie - I'll never get tired of The Devil Wears Prada. The movie was so much better than the book in my opinion!

Day 27 – A picture of you last year and now and how have you changed since then?

One year ago, I was a freshman in college. This picture was from around October 2009. Physically, I don't think I've changed that much. I think I've matured though, but not by much! It's kind of a personal topic so I don't really want to share it to the cyberworld.

It's all good though :)

Day 26 – A photo of somewhere you’ve been to.

This challenge is so broad...but I just picked the only interesting place I've ever been to: CHINA! I've been there once before (2001), but this trip was special. It was a school trip during April 2008, and not only was it an amazing trip for all reasons academic and cultural...this is also when I met and fell in love with my one and only Jeffrey :)

So yes, there are lots of memories there. I tried to find a good photo I took myself but alas, my camera skills were even suckier two years ago. I found this great picture of Shanghai at night, cause it is exactly what I saw when were on the river ferry. Ahhh I want to go back so bad now!!

Day 25 - What's in your purse?

I've always wanted to do one of these and now I have an excuse to! I actually don't carry that much in my bag usually - pretty boring if you ask me. But I had fun writing this post~

So inside my purse:
~sunglasses from H&M
~wallet from Urban Outfitters
~Moleskine notebook/planner
~iPhone
~Purell hand sanitizer
~Eclipse gum
~tissues
~key strap from Marc by MJ
~Hello Kitty key fobs from F21
~pepper spray
~makeup bag from L'Occitane x Pinky
~iPhone charger

I love how red stands out in a sea of neutrals in the fall.
I wore my new red peacoat today too :)

it's been a while

I kinda became a little inconsistent with the posting again. It's been a busy week, and I think I'll probably be busy for the rest of October :( College sucks, huh? But I'll try to post regular (and better!) posts. I have these big plans for my blog but you know me...procrastinator to the max.

This is gonna be a "what I did this weekend" post~

Our good friend Terence turned 21 last week and it was his celebration. We went to karaoke in Chinatown and then had hot pot for dinner at Kaze Shabu. Afterwards, we went to the hotel room that he rented and had a mini party. I didn't take that many photos but here's just a couple from my iPhone...
(Avoiding the microphone by camera-whoring, the birthday boy singing, and part of the guest list)

Until next time...

day twenty four

Day 24 - A photo of something that means a lot to you.

Before I write anything, I want to clarify that the question said something and not someone.
Yes, my blog means a lot to me. I don't feel like writing a whole essay on why (even though I did for a college application and never submitted it), so I'm just gonna leave it at that.

xx
Shirls

P.S. I thought the photo would look more ominous in black and white.

day twenty two & twenty three

Day 22 - A letter to someone who has hurt you recently.

Dear Throat,
Stop hurting. You're really annoying and making me thirsty all the time.

Sincerely,
Shirley

Day 23 - 15 facts about you.

1. I'm really bad at these fact questions.
2. I was given a different name at birth, and didn't have it legally changed until a couple years ago.
3. I don't like wearing socks.
4. I have a weird habit of smelling my mascara before using it.
5. I was diagnosed with a heart murmur when I was in junior high (but it's not life-threatening).
6. I look forward to shopping for maternity clothes.
7. I don't mind being alone and sometimes even prefer it.
8. I'm allergic to shallots...
9. I've declared the hippopotamus my favorite animal ever since finding out that albino ones are pink.
10. I think my ears are lopsided and that my eyes don't match up either.
11. I'm a big procrastinator and really lazy (unless I'm trying to make someone happy).
12. I hate cold weather and have decided to move to California when I'm older.
13. I'm super indecisive when it comes to picking what to eat. I would eat soup for the rest of my life.
14. I find late afternoon to be my favorite time of day.
15. I'm quite boring.

I rushed this entry cause I don't really like these two challenges. But I figured I had to get them done.

Day 21 - A photo of something that makes you happy.

Yes, it's completely materialistic of me but pretty designer bags make me happy. (And I've had these stored on my computer for a while and just wanted to share).

Day 20 - The meaning behind your blog name.

It's my name three times - there's really nothing behind it, haha.

I actually created this blog during my AP English class in high school. We were going to do some writing and have classmates comment on our posts cause everything is through technology these days...but I guess my teacher got rid of that idea. So when I grew tired of Xanga, I moved over to Blogger. And that's how it all began!

Day 18 – Something you crave a lot.

Iced coffee. (I love the caramel iced latte from Dunkin Donuts).

Day 19 – Another picture of yourself.

Just another outfit post. My hair is kind of a mess...

Day 17 - A photo of the last item you purchased.

I bought this floral backpack from YesStyle a couple weeks ago, so with the exception of things like food and my bus pass, I think this is the most recent thing I bought. I am aware that it's fall now, so floral doesn't really go with the weather. But it was too cute to pass up (and I was growing tired of the boring black Northface that pretty much every college kid has).

Buy it here!

Day 16
- Your celebrity crush.

The guys in Hollywood just don't do it for me. Leighton Meester on the other hand - I'm in love with both her and her character in Gossip Girl. If you haven't noticed, I'm a little bit obsessed with that show.

Day 15 - Something you don't leave the house without.

My iPhone. It's seriously addicting having a smart phone. Jeff has an iPhone too, and sometimes we both just sit there in silence playing with them. It's kind of sad...

We both joke that this PostSecret entry describes us:

Haha.

I'm a sucker for anything neutral + pink.
Makes me long for spring again...
It's been raining all day today and I got soaked.

Day 14 - A photograph of the town you live in.

Watertown, probably the smallest and most boring city ever.
But it is extremely close to Boston, so it's super convenient.
I've lived here for 10 years so I call it home :)

xx

P.S. I was lazy and it's rainy outside, so I just took a pic off Wikipedia. Haha.

It's getting a little chilly around here and I don't like it.
On the lookout for a shearling jacket like this one from Nasty Gal to keep me warm. Have I mentioned how much I love this store? I want pretty much everything on their site.

Day 13 - A TV show you're currently addicted to.

There's no competition here - Gossip Girl without a doubt! I love all that drama and fashion...and Chuck & Blair are my favorite couple ever.

Don't forget it's on tonight :)

10.03.2010

Day 12 - Your favorite musician and why?

My favorite musician is none other than the queen of hip-pop, Namie Amuro of Japan.
Why? She's a beautiful, talented, and strong woman. And looks like she's still 18 when she really just turned 33. Although I don't stalk Namie as much as I used to, Baby Don't Cry will always be my favorite song.

10.02.2010

day eleven

Day 11 - What's in your makeup bag?

I used to be a huge makeup fanatic, but nowadays I'm more lazy about it. This is just the basic stuff I use the most. I was really bored so I put them into categories and listed everything :)

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-3,
Tarte The Toolbox Brow: Know How in Medium, L'Oreal Paris Bare Naturale Gentle Mineral Powder in Natural Beige, Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens

Sephora Pure Palette Star Gazer Edition, Dior Show Powder in Catwalk Pink

Darkness False Eyelashes, Revlon Illuminance Cream Shadow in Not Just Nude, Imju Fiberwig Mascara, Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara, Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner in Deep Black, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

EOS Lip Balm in Summer Melon, Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Pink Please, Nivea A Kiss of Moisture

Sonia Kashuk/Essence of Beauty/Origins makeup brushes, Shu Uemura eyelash curler, Twinkle eyebrow trimmer, Sonia Kashuk tweezers, Trim nail clipper, Dariya hair fringe velcro clips, extra hair tie and bobby pins

Usually I just wear concealer for my huge dark circles, mascara, blush, and lip balm.

euphoria

Even though I've been doing this thirty day challenge, I feel like I haven't written a good 'ol boring post about my day. Welllll today I had to rush back to Boston again from Worcester in the pouring morning rain. Got some quick lunch after at Ken's Ramen House. I decided ramen's not really my thing. I don't like it unless it's in an instant noodle cup.

We headed back to Clark this Friday night instead of working for the annual "Euphoria" dance. After a mini party at our Korean friends' place, we headed to the dance. It was fun for a little while, predicting hookups (which came true!) and dancing to kinda bad music...but in the end, Jeff and I just like ordering food and watching tv together :)
